  11. After connecting at 9600 all the time with my 9600 modem,i thought
  12. when i got my new 28800 i would have no problems!! it all started when
  13. my wife baught me a 28800 reveal pm700 for my bithday (what a girl )..
  14. i installed the modem with the software that came with it
  15. (faxworks),changed the baud rate in my trumpet winsock to 115200 and
  16. left the init string as it was (at&c1&k3) connected to my isp and got
  17. a connection of 2400!!! i'm the type of guy that has to know (WHY)!!!
  18. so i started to search the web found some great things (curt's high
  19. speed modems page) and this news group as well, posted a few please
  20. for help,got some answers, but still a 2400 connect..everyone kept
  21. saying use your default setting or build a string from your manual..i
  22. tried what was supposed to be the best setting from my manual wich was
  23. (at&f0b1q0v1w0x4&k3&l0%c3) well it gave me error after error, so i
  24. took one comand out at a time, still a 2400 connect..by now i've
  25. learned a little about some commands and got the volume to work with
  26. an L1(low) L2(medium) L3(high) L0(off), so i set my default string at
  27. (AT&F1L1) and just connected at 2400 to get my ppp account and did my
  28. web surfing at the default setting, my downloads are real and the
  29. pages load like lightning compared to my old 9600!!! but still i have
  30. to know WHY the F#$*%@&# thing is still connecting at 2400??????so i
  31. tried finding a page for a reveal modem,found the reveal page but no
  32. modem info..found all kinds of info on usr supra zoom ect ect
  33. ect....weeks have gone by and i'm still playing around ,and when i'm
  34. doing big downloads, i look in my modem manual trying to figure out
  35. what in the hell all the greek writeing is about and what it
  36. mean's..then after installing kali pppshare to connect to a searver to
  37. play descent through dos, i found out i connect at 115200 all the
  38. time..now the idea of throwing the modem,monitor and pc out the window
  39. is gone,,and i know all i need is the magic init string..well heres
  40. what worked for me after ten logons at 28800 (AT$F1)=my
  41. default,(&M0)=select direct asynchronous mode), (&K3)=enable rts/cts
  42. dte/dce flow control,(L1)=set low speaker volume..so if anyone has a
  43. reveal pm700 the string that works for me is AT&F1&M0&K3L1,,if there
  44. are any modem gurus who read this and can see a problem or know a
  45. better solution, please mail me and let me know !!!!....zippo
